The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts is the first place to start a people search for court case data. The office sits at 1000 Sycamore Street in Cincinnati, OH 45202. Call (513) 946-5656 to reach the main line. You can search for civil, criminal, and traffic cases by name, case number, or party name at courtclerk.org/records-search. The search covers All Courts, Criminal and Traffic, Common Pleas Civil, and Municipal Civil divisions. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM for the Municipal Criminal and Traffic Division.

Background checks are also done through this office. You can get one in person at the Justice Center, Room 100, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A government-issued photo ID is required. Under ORC 149.43, court records in Ohio are public. That means anyone can search the Clerk's database without giving a reason. The clerk is not required to offer remote access to all files under Rule 45(C), but the online tool covers a broad set of case types. Due to data mining concerns, some redaction may apply. If your first search comes back short, try a second request.

Cash or credit cards work in person, but mail requests need a cashier's check only and take about 5 business days.

Online genealogy records in the Hamilton County Probate Court archive include estates from 1791 to 1984, wills from 1791 to 1973, marriages from 1808 to 1983, birth records from 1863 to 1908, and death records from 1881 to 1908.
